Last summer, thousands of tie-dyed Burners and Patagonia-clad tech founders converged on the MAPS Psychedelic Science conference in Denver. The experience "broke the spell of this trauma, and she was able to rebuild her life," Doblin told The Guardian . The video team's job was to store recordings of every MDMA therapy session performed in the clinical trials. Grof believes in something called an "inner healing intelligence," an innate capacity for self-healing that psychedelic therapy helps unleash. Another time, a patient who had come to an MDMA therapy session later acknowledged they had been under the influence of LSD during treatment.

I took up running 10 years ago, and now, at 63 years old, I'm an ultra-runner. I start being more intentional about the way I breathe, the water I'm drinking, and the food I'm eating. When I'm running in the mountains, it feels like a meditation. I look for a really good miso that's been fermented for several years.

I started my Etsy store in 2020 to make money on the side — just enough to pay a phone bill or two. It prompted me to start an Etsy store selling customized digital pet portraits. I'd make text-based designs on Canva and use Printify, a print-on-demand store linked to my Etsy store, to make and send them to customers. My day job made me really angry, prompting me to focus on building my store. Etsy works best if you keep uploading items for saleI spent between two and three hours a day uploading new designs.

Building a career in travel and hospitalityOn return from my travels, I moved to London and pursued my then-dream career in hospitality. Coaching others on their journeysIn 2013, I decided to set up my own PR agency as a foreigner in Singapore. So I got my coaching qualifications, saw a renowned Buddhist Meditation Teacher to learn mindfulness and meditation, and learned other tools to complement my coaching method. Read previewFive minutes a day might be all it takes to add healthy years to your life, according to a longevity specialist. You can link existing habits to healthy changes like a quick exercise session, a moment of deep breathing, and more. One technique is a simple exercise of focusing on your breath as you inhale for a count of four, hold for a count of seven, and exhale for a count of eight. Research suggests that gratitude not only improves mental health, but can also protect your physical health through factors like reducing blood pressure. "This can be a really powerful framework to not only add more years to your life, but more life to your years."

1 thing that makes us feel happy and live longer is positive relationships with romantic partners and friends. To remedy this sometimes intimidating process, Julie Rice and Elizabeth Cutler created Peoplehood, a "workout for your relationships", to help people find community. To get a better sense of the experience, I attended a Peoplehood gather. Peoplehood gathers are led by a guide, and she prompted us to start the experience with breathwork. The first one was pretty simple; we were asked to share our name and something that felt true for us.

They struggled to define and measure long Covid, to identify a cause for or a mechanism behind it. Searching for ways to feel more present, I started meditating every day and committed to it for an entire month; daily meditation opened my eyes to just how much time we spend living in the past or the future and not the present. Additional benefits of meditating include stress reduction, lower levels of anxiety, better sleep and increased self-awareness, says Perkowski. The practice of meditation can also shift a person's thinking from negative thoughts that feel too intense so they can move on from them, she adds. To truly reap the benefits of meditation, Perkowski recommends prioritizing consistency over length. So for 30 days straight, I meditated for at least five minutes daily to see if I'd experience any positives changes to my overall wellbeing.

Lindsay Bira swears by freediving — lengthy stints of underwater diving while holding your breath — as a stress reduction method. When you're stressed at work, practicing a "breath hold" freediving exercise at your desk can help, Bira said on Wednesday at the 2023 NeuroLeadership Institute Summit in New York. It only takes 60 seconds. "You are, physiologically, totally capable" of holding your breath longer than 60 seconds, but your brain starts to send distress signals before you reach the milestone, she added. When you take a second — or 60 seconds — to breath-hold and reframe your thinking in those moments, you're doing something called "reappraisal," Bira said.

Professionals deal with work stress in many different ways, from morning walks to motivational mantras. But many people don't know that breathing exercises can also help regulate stress, release anger and reduce anxiety. And according to Zee Clarke, author of Black People Breathe and mindfulness & breathwork expert for BIPOC communities, they can also help professionals mitigate workplace burnout. According to Clarke, the squeeze and release technique is great for lessening that tension and releasing anger. This stress release practice takes less than a minute to do and helps combat anxiety.
And that's the way I felt when I was working in corporate, is that the DEI initiatives were not for me. According to Clarke, these are the things companies got wrong in 2022, and ways to fix them in 2023:Not providing the support — or budget — for DEI plans to thrive. There's all these layoffs and leaders have to make budget decisions, and DEI got deprioritized," Clarke says. If companies don't prioritize DEI efforts by providing actual support, Clarke believes things won't change. How many companies have hired a Chief Diversity Officer and then didn't give them a budget or a robust team?
Psychedelic therapy is nowhere near as simple as filling a prescription and taking a pill at home. A clinical psychologist, she founded and now leads the first accredited psychedelic therapy training program in the U.S. at the California Institute of Integral Studies. The psychedelic therapy program entails 150 hours of instruction and several in-person training sessions. So why the growing interest in using psychedelic drugs for mental health? Treatment with psychedelic drugs is not as simple as giving the patient a pill to take at home, and it’s not for everybody.
She decided to download Sleep by Headspace, which costs $69.99 a year. She liked the wind-down and mid-night exercises, which helped her get to sleep after waking up. The "Falling Back to Sleep" wind down. Some tracks I found distracting, like "Cabin Porch," which featured bird sounds that my mind equates more with waking up. While briefly glancing at a cell phone in order to play an item from Sleep for Headspace likely won't ruin a night of sleep, it invites into the bedroom the temptation to continue scrolling.
